So much has happened this year. Widget has grown from a 16 month old toddler to a 28 month old little boy. He’s gained new skills like sharing and taking turns, and he loves playdates even more than he loves to run and climb outside. He is a charming little kid and a joy to be around. He’s so creative, and he loves to build towers and buildings and garages out of just about anything. He builds, and he talks about it, and then he builds again. His attention span, always long for his age, has continued, and he likes to completely explore one activity before moving on to another. He’s very social, and he is a sweetheart on a playdate.
Today at snacktime, he asked for blueberries, and Daddy said sure, if you share. So he went to the cabinet, pulled out four bowls, and took them around and gave one to each of the boys that were over for our New Year’s playdate. The 4 year old and the 1 year old each took one. The 3 year old didn’t want any blueberries, but Widget followed him around for a minute with a bowl, offering it repeatedly to be sure. So cute! He did take no for an answer, by the way, and ended up eating blueberries out of each bowl, since the other kids apparently aren’t big on fruit.
The countdown and ball drop at noon, by the way, were simply adorable, and tons of fun for all. Widget wasn’t sure what to make of it the first time, but then he went and retrieved his ball so he could do it again – he was so happy!
His talking has exploded, from really nothing to hundreds of words and even simple sentences. Here’s a sampling from just yesterday and today. “I climb!” “It’s light outside.” ”Mommy sleep.” “Birds eat seed outside.” And the one that I’m surprised took this long to appear, since Widget feeds him every day and treats him often: “Dog eat bone.”
I’m ending this post with a meme that I saw somewhere last week and then again on Angry Pregnant Lawyer. I don’t have a full year of posts, but here’s what it’s looked like around here since August, using the first sentence of the first post of each month. 1. Two years ago this week, I realized that I was part of a new world. 2. Keeping kids safe is a full-time job. 3. Well, that’s it. 4. Our days are filled with toddler fun these days, and it’s all about learning how things work and enjoying our time together. 5. All right, internet. You want honesty?
Oh, and of course for a year-in-review post, I should mention the 28 weeks of bed rest for this back pain that I refused to medicate until recently because of the wonderful baby that we are expecting ANY DAY NOW. I’ve made it to 36.3 weeks (and 98 blog posts!) with this pregnancy, and I couldn’t be happier. Oh wait, one thing would make me happier — the birth of our new baby!
