Introducing …

We have a new baby at our house.  His name is (deleted to protect his privacy).  That means that he needs a blogname … and fast!  We’ve been using Whybaby as a placeholder, but I think he needs something a little more personal now that he’s out in the world.  Here are some of my top choices….

Watcher.  The very first thing this little boy did when they put him in my arms was open his eyes and look around at the world.  He is very alert and his eyes are so bright … the few hours a day when he’s awake, that is!

Tinker.  Because I hope that he’ll be a little explorer, figuring out how things work, much like his brother, but in his own way.  But that’s just me projecting, as he’s not exactly assembling model rockets  in the backyard yet.

Little Bear.  This is what I called him in the hospital, and I keep coming back to it now that we’re home.  He’s a strong little guy, and he’s really caught on to things out in the world beyond the womb.  He eats like a champ, he’s regained his birth weight not one week out, he fusses as an alert when his diaper needs changing, and he doesn’t bat an eye when a grandparent reaches out to hold him.  He even let his big brother hold him today with no complaint!

Treasure.  This is the one I keep coming back to.  The pregnancy was so very hard, and we worried so very much, and I am just beyond thrilled that he is here with us and doing so well.  Thriving, even.  This little boy will be my last baby, and I promise to treasure every moment of his babyhood and beyond.  Although I’ve seen a baby of mine eat, lift his head, roll over, sit up, and learn to walk before, I never will again, and I will treasure every moment.

Welcome to the world, baby.  We can’t wait to learn more about who you are and what kind of child you will become.

What a gorgeous babe! Seriously, he has the look of an old soul. Whymommy, you amaze me. You are thinking clearly enough to write so beautifully. Is it true, then, that the second is easier? :)

I am so happy for you, and I hope you are completely pain-free, if not now, then soon.

Beautiful! Any name you give him will be great.

Oh, yes! The second baby is SO much easier. At least so far! Or maybe it’s because this little guy was full-term. The difference between a 38+ weeker and a barely 37 weeker is HUGE. Little Bear learned to nurse in hours; Widget took weeks to learn, and all three of us were up all day and all night until then trying to get food into him any way possible when he was this age. I was pumping, he was screaming, we were all syringe- and finger-feeding pretty much round the clock in desparate attempts to get a couple cc’s in him at a time. He was so little and we were all so scared for him. Oh, and the SNS adventures! What stress.

I hope to never compare the two again, but these first days together have been as different as night and day.

adorable…I like the nickname Tinker…

He is a handsome guy. Wow!

Did you decide on Little Bear? I really like that nickname.

What a beautiful boy! I’m enjoying Toddler Planet and getting to know a little bit about your family. Congratulations on the Little Bear addition!
