I had such plans for today

I had such plans for today.  It’s right there on my calendar:  zoo, aquarium, and/or Target.  We were going to finish off my list of things to do and have a wonderful morning or afternoon out as a family.

But instead I caught a cold (at the pediatrician’s office! Unfair!), Widget slept all afternoon, and Little Bear’s been up all night for the past few nights protesting a diet change.  So we cuddled up in jammies and napped off and on all day, alternating sleep with quiet games in the playroom.  Eventually, I fell asleep again putting Widget down for his afternoon nap (the post-chemo meds make me soooooo drowsy, but they work wonders on the aches and bone pain that I’ve been having).  I woke up just as the last rays of light were leaving his window, heading for the West and leaving us in the quiet darkness of a fall evening.

We pulled ourselves up, went downstairs to join Daddy and Little Bear, and had a nice family dinner together.  A relaxing warm bath and stories for everyone capped off the evening, and the boys were read/lullabied/cuddled to sleep.

Hey.  It turned out to be a pretty good day after all.

  1. It sounds like an excellent day. From my perspective of 34 years of mothering, I think we try too hard to create wonderful outings when everyone is out of sorts. Everyone would have been much better off with a quiet day at home.

  2. We stayed home all day. And it was wonderful. Glad it was so for you, too.

WhyMommy–I had an angry left breast and got it checked out after reading your blog. All is well–infection. Thanks for spreading the word. I’ve been inspired by you and will continue to inform people of IBC.

I love busy weekends but the ones I label as ‘downtime weekends’ are just as fun. Glad you had one of those too.

Hope you recover from the cold real soon.

  4. I love days like that, they are the very best. I’m glad for you that you had such a good day!

  8. I love those days.. when it’s 4 PM and you realize everyone’s still in their jammies. Sometimes, it’s just so nice to have nowhere to be.

Aside from the cold, that sounds like a pretty great day.

Sometimes those lazy days at home are the best!

  11. Isn’t it funny how a day that seems to start out ordinary (or even a little sucky) turns out to be such a wonderful day.

See the cold as a gift, it made you cancel your plans (cause it’s not as if chemo is going to stop you hey?!) and have a lovely, jammie filled cuddle fest day.

Sounds like bliss to me. Oh how I miss my kids being little like that.

Didn’t John Lennon say something about life being what happens when you’re busy making other plans?

I’m sorry you have a cold. I would make you chicken soup if I were there.

I love it. The zoo…or the aquarium…or Target. I usually pick Target.

    I hope you’re feeling better!

So sorry about the cold….that stinks. Sometimes though those days home napping, and staying in your pj’s are exactly what you need.

Some days we ALL need a day like that. Sounds lovely.

The zoo, the aquarium, and yes, even Target, will still be there! So enjoy the quiet moments while you can get them.

  18. Here’s some bright and happy news regarding lead in toys: Playmobil now makes a HazMat crew so your kids can de-lead their own toys. No kidding. Check my post and check Playmobil. 🙂
