Cars 2

Cars 2. Go.  You won’t be sorry.  We got to go to the preview last Saturday, thanks to Jessica, A Parent in Silver Spring, who gives away tickets to new movies, tells the community about free concerts at Strathmore, and generally keeps us all in the loop about fun activities for kids.  She writes about so many fun things to do — if  you’re local to D.C. or looking for what’s new and exciting in movies and activities, go check it out!

Cars 2 was AWESOME.  Yes, even for the parents. Trust me – if it’s your day to take the kids, take them to the movie when it opens this weekend (don’t worry, your kids know what date).  There’s an awesome James Bond-y feel to it, and it’s a lot of fun!

Caveat: There is a LOT more action in this sequel than the first, toddler-safe, Cars movie.  There are bad guys, and it may be a little intense at the beginning for kids under 4.  When in doubt, check the review on Common Sense Media, written by Sandie Chen.

Yeah, I’m a little worried about my boys. CC has seen the posters at the theater (which is next door to the Chik-fil-a we go to) for weeks now though, and he is SO excited. I’m not sure what I’m going to do – he totally knows it’s coming out and wants to see it . . .

Not all that long ago, my now 5 year old asked what daddy does at work. Part of his answer was “send bad guys to jail”. Her response was, “You mean bad guys are real?!?”

Apparently we have done too good a job pointing out that a movie is just pretend… That said, I think their is value in pushing kids a little, to experience things that are a little scary – but safely addressed after as “not real”, “just pretend”, “a good story”.

And I have also learned that what I expect to be scary and what they find scary are often two very different things. With that same 5 year old, she tends to only get scared when the music tells her to!

Oscar is going to a birthday party Saturday and Cars2 is on the menu…i was actually a little jealous cause i wanted to see it, and was thinking of bringing Josephine along…but maybe i’ll hold off and we’ll wait, as the bad guys might be a lot for her. thanks for the review.

i’ll look forward to renting it.

  4. oh my gosh Susan, you are always so good to me! thank you thank you.

  5. Oooh, sounds like fun! It’s opening at our local cinema soon. Fainjin hasn’t been to the cinema before (well, since he was a baby and we used to go to “Mummy & me” sessions), so this might be a good first film for him! He has seen the first one on TV and loved it.
